POETRY: WRITING WITH YOUR LIFE

Now, I might not be too popular for saying this. But I’ll stick my neck out and say it anyways. I believe that most folk have the ability to pick up a pen and scribble a few lines on a piece of paper. You might not want to, as poetry isn’t for everyone, but you can. The pen and paper are not what makes you a poet, they are merely the instruments at your disposal by which you write your poem down.

No, it’s your attitude towards & commitment to it! 😁 Do you see it as a hobby, a passing fad that you turn to every now and again when things get tough? Or is it something you do every day? Do you put your heart and soul into it? Or use your life experiences and observations as material & sources of inspiration even if they are painful or difficult?! Are you coming up with ideas for poems when you’re doing something else different?

You see, poetry is in everything you see and do; in every person you meet and experience you have, if you’re open to it. So, why not give everything back to it?! There’s an enormous sense of satisfaction; comfort; clarity and purpose that comes with writing poetry regularly. A sense of identity too & community with kindred spirits from all over the world reading; enjoying & responding to your work, deriving inspiration and solace from it because you took the time to bare your soul; write it down and share it!

So, why not write with your whole life?! Yes, I know I’m an all or nothing type of guy. I’m either all in or all out. No in-betweens. I know that poetry or that philosophy towards it or life is not for everyone. So there’s no judgement here. But I promise you’ll get back what you put in a hundred fold! 😁👍

      1. Yes indeed Sadje! 👍😁 My goal has always been to make poetry more accessible to people so simple; straightforward words are important to that end! 👍

  1. I too think we all are filled with poetry – we only need to put it down on paper… I know there are those who do not see themselves as poets. It is those folks who become the inspiration for others!

    1. I’m glad you can relate! 🙏😊 You’re bang on Muri! There’s us, the poets who are inspired or those who don’t write but who can become a source of inspiration for us. 👍😁 Once it’s written down, it’ll always be there.
