For the visually challenged reader & this week’s #WHATDOYOUSEE #WDYS #POETRYPROMPT, Sadje has provided us with this image which shows a piece of paper that’s partly scorched at the top. The intact part shows a quote 1 Corinthians 13 written on it. Below lies my contribution, hope you enjoy the read! 🤞🤞🙏🙏👇👇😁😁📖📖
SYNGED LOVE LETTER; REIGNITED FLAMES
Love is a lot of things
I’ve spoken about it before
It can make you cry
And make you sing
Leaving you with a cold heart
Or yearning for a little bit more
What love does most of all
Though
Is light a fire inside
You
Around you
Around the synged edges
Of your love lettered life
Before eventually
Consuming you
Engulfing you with
Passion & longing;
Anger & hate
Righting & wronging
Hurt & heartbreak.
The ultimate love letter
Written by St. Paul
To the Corinthians
Forming the backdrop
Of many’s a marriage vow
Setting an olympian
Standard
For the rest of us to follow
All declarations since,
In comparison,
Seem hollow.
Artificial even.
It’s words
Divinely inspired
& too hot to handle
Though noble to aspire
Will burn a hole
In your conscience
Or make a liar
Out of aforementioned vows
Guideline for the humble
Challenge to the proud
Easy to forget
Amidst the arguments & rows
But for those who are willing
It’s timeless advice contains
The capacity & principles
To let go of your anger
Your pride & the blame
To sincerely forgive
And listen to their voice
To reignite your love’s flames
Soon you’ll rejoice

Everytime I read Corinthians I see St. Paul as the reluctant feminist! He spouts what he thinks and then modifies it with what God says… And you are so right that this little definition of what love is and what it isn’t is the gold standard!!

“Reluctant Feminist” is a perfectly apt & funny description of Paul! 👌👌👍👍😂😂 Thanks very much for your insightful feedback Valerie! 😁😊🙏

No indeed. Far from the gold standard but something to aspire to all the same.

This is such a beautiful poem Ken. These words do hold us to the highest standards of love, but not everyone can attain that. Thanks for joining in.
