So folks, that’s it for the catch up this week. Thanks very much for stopping by & reading the post. Hope ye all enjoyed the Recap, tell your friends about my blog and tune back in next week for more of the same. πŸ˜πŸ™πŸ˜ŠπŸ€ž

POETRY: A WITHHELD FORM OF CLARITY OR MISUNDERSTOOD COMMUNICATION

β€œA poet dares be just so clear and no clearer… He unzips the veil from beauty, but does not remove it. A poet utterly clear is a trifle glaring.” β€” E. B. White, from One Man’s Meat.

β€œIt is a test [that] genuine poetry can communicate before it is understood.” β€” T. S. Eliot, from the essay Dante.

Good afternoon folks! Welcome back, a long overdue welcome back at that, to my Poetry Quotes blog where we take a look at some favourite poetry quotes of mine and reflect on their meaning & relevance to our lives as poets & readers alike! πŸ˜πŸ™

It would seem, from Mr. E.B. White’s statement above, that a good poet can/ought to be a bit of a literary tease; a poetic temptress if you will. Unzipping the dress of vocabulary far enough to show just enough skin to leave the viewers wanting more but not so much as to be too revealing and obvious!

We don’t have to give the reader all the information at once. Tell them what’s going on with or around you by all means but hold something back; enough to make them think; ask questions and maybe want to read some more of you poetry. Less is more as they say!

T.S. Eliot’s quote follows on with a similar theme of that: you don’t have to reveal everything in your poem for it to be a really good one; in order for it to speak to the reader. That you can communicate what you want to say without necessarily being completely understood or giving everything away.

You see, a lot of the time, poetry is about what you don’t say as much as what you do. Choosing the right words at the right time to create the right picture and tell the right story while still leaving the reader wanting more. And that’s the beauty; simplicity & mystery of poetry all wrapped up in one!

POETRY: CONNECTING WITH THE HEARTS OF ALL PEOPLE THROUGH CLEAR EXPRESSION

“For poetry there exists neither large countries nor small. Its domain is in the heart of all men.”

Giorgos Seferis

“What’s the function of poetry? It’s to express general truths, to connect with the reader and make him think: ‘Wow, I’ve experienced that, but you’ve expressed it so much better.'”

Giles Andreae

Hey folks! How are ye all doing? I know it’s been a while but welcome back to my Poetry Quotes Blog where we take a couple of my favourite poetry quotes, break them down; analyse them and apply the lessons learned to our lives as poets and readers alike. So, without further ado.

This first quote from Giorgos Seferis says so much to me and it’s what I love about the craft of poetry! What I believe Seferis is saying here is that poetry doesn’t belong to any one group; tribe or ethnicity of people. It resides in the heart of all men & women the world over.

Everyone has a poetic story within them, along with the capacity & life experience to write one. I, for one, firmly believe this to be true and will say and have said it to anyone who’ll listen or is doubting their ability to write poetry. Neither is it the domain of the intellectually superior or educated. It belongs to everybody, no matter what background; training or race.

What matters is that, as Giles Andreae states, is that you connect with your reader. How do you do that? You do it my “expressing general truths”. In other words, being honest; real & direct about how you see yourself and the world around you. And not just expressing them but doing so in such a clear; concise manner that the reader can relate to it and can say: “this poem/line/verse has been written about me”.

That’s it for this week’s poetry quotes reflection folks. Thanks so much for stopping by and having a read of the blog. πŸ™πŸ˜Š I do hope that ye all enjoyed it and got something out of it! 🀞😁 Until next time, mind yourselves; stay creative and take care.
