SYNGED LOVE LETTER; REIGNITED FLAMES: Sadje’s #WhatDoYouSee #WDYS Poetry Image Prompt #177

Image credit; Leighann Blackwood @ Unsplash

For the visually challenged reader & this week’s #WHATDOYOUSEE #WDYS #POETRYPROMPT, Sadje has provided us with this image which shows a piece of paper that’s partly scorched at the top. The intact part shows a quote 1 Corinthians 13 written on it. Below lies my contribution, hope you enjoy the read! πŸ€žπŸ€žπŸ™πŸ™πŸ‘‡πŸ‘‡πŸ˜πŸ˜πŸ“–πŸ“–

SYNGED LOVE LETTER; REIGNITED FLAMES

Love is a lot of things
I’ve spoken about it before
It can make you cry
And make you sing
Leaving you with a cold heart
Or yearning for a little bit more
What love does most of all
Though
Is light a fire inside
You
Around you
Around the synged edges
Of your love lettered life
Before eventually
Consuming you
Engulfing you with
Passion & longing;
Anger & hate
Righting & wronging
Hurt & heartbreak.

The ultimate love letter
Written by St. Paul
To the Corinthians
Forming the backdrop
Of many’s a marriage vow
Setting an olympian
Standard
For the rest of us to follow
All declarations since,
In comparison,
Seem hollow.
Artificial even.

It’s words
Divinely inspired
& too hot to handle
Though noble to aspire
Will burn a hole
In your conscience
Or make a liar
Out of aforementioned vows
Guideline for the humble
Challenge to the proud
Easy to forget
Amidst the arguments & rows
But for those who are willing
It’s timeless advice contains
The capacity & principles
To let go of your anger
Your pride & the blame
To sincerely forgive
And listen to their voice
To reignite your love’s flames
Soon you’ll rejoice

STAINED CERAMICS; CAFFEINATED BURN: Weave Written Weekly: w3 Prompt #45

For this week’s Weave Written Weekly Prompt over at the Skeptic’s Kaddish, David Bogomolny, this week’s PoW has encouraged us to compose a poem from the perspective of an inaminate household object using personification.

STAINED CERAMICS; CAFFEINATED BURN

There’s something I’d like to address
Every day you do the same thing
Take me down from the press
To get your caffeine fix
Heap this sweet sugary substance into me
As well as what looks like coffee granules of sort,
Then you proceed to add this white; milky liquid to the mix
I think you might call
It soya
Then you throw boiling hot water into my ceramic interior
On top of it all
Ouch!!!
And stir them together without any regard
For how I might feel!
Just because I’m not human
Just because I’m made of clay
Doesn’t mean their not real
Then, when you’ve finished drinking from me
You just throw me to one side
On the sink
Used.
Stained with coffee
Cracked on the edges
And feeling dirty inside.

SERIOUS PLAY OR SILLY REDISCOVERY: d’Verse Poetics Prompt (Playtime)

For this week’s d’Verse Poetics Prompt, Lisa aka msjadeli has encouraged us to get in touch with or rather rediscover our playful side now that springtime is almost upon us. Below lies the result to my poetic response to the game! πŸ‘‡πŸ‘‡ Hope ye enjoy the read! πŸ™πŸ™πŸ€žπŸ€žπŸ“–πŸ“–

SERIOUS PLAY OR SILLY REDISCOVERY

Kicking football down the streets
With no shoes
On your feet
Playing chase with your crew
Or some hide & seek
Staying up all hours downing booze
Dancing to the pulsing beats
In the hazy days of youth
Now you’re stuck on tv repeats
Playing fast & loose with the truth
About who you’ve become
My two girls
You could teach me a thing or 2
About not being too
Serious!
Why so serious?
The Joker inquires
As we’re putting out fires.
Or checking off lists
Of jobs to do. Chances we miss
To play, to have fun
To build blocks
Be silly. Go for a run
Need to learn how to play again
Rediscover it before the pain
Gets too much
And you lose touch
With you inner child
Go on & have some fun.
Go a little wild.

MAGICAL HIDEAWAY; TRICK OF REFLECTION: #Tanka Tuesday #PoetryChallenge #310

For this week’s Tanka Tuesday Weekly Poetry Challenge, Colleen has invited us to to compose a poetic response to the picture below taken by Terri Webster Schrant over at secondwindleisure.com for her weekly Sunday Stills Photo Challenge.

MAGICAL HIDEAWAY; TRICK OF REFLECTION

Water bubbles & froths
While steam rises
A strange concoction brewing underneath
Appearing to transform into a shade of green
A magical hideaway?!
Signs of new life emerging?!
Or just a trick of towering trees
Sloping down into the lake
Reflected.

A STILTED INHALE OF AIR: d’Verse Quadrille #171 (Gasp)

For this week’s d’Verse Quadrille Prompt, whimsygizmo aka De Jackson has encouraged us to compose a poem using the word “Gasp” or a variation thereof. Hopefully this poem below will leave you gasping for air in the best possible way! πŸ™πŸ˜πŸ€žπŸ“–

A STILTED INHALE OF AIR

Her life was nothing more then
Than one prolonged gasp
A painful struggle for breath
A sudden; abbreviated intake of air
As if she were in a constant state of surprise
At her very existence
A stilted inhale
A fleeting exhale
Suck it in!

FURRY FASHION ACCESORY: Sadje’s #WhatDoYouSee #WDYS Poetry Image Prompt #176

For the visually challenged reader, Sadje has provided us with the image above which shows a man carrying a puppy in a carrier bag across his shoulders. The puppy looks pensive. Here’s my contribution, hope you enjoy the read! πŸ€žπŸ™πŸ˜πŸ“–

FURRY FASHION ACCESORY

“Oh for goodness sake!
Being carried around in a bag again
Like I’m some furry; fashionable accessory!
I look like an idiot!”
“Does he forget that I do have 4 legs?
“That I am able to walk on my own.
Why he persists on carrying me
In this silly bag
When all the other dogs
Are running around free
Barking; peeing; sniffing
Ya know?! The usual stuff.
I’ll never know!”

PATIENT LOYALTY OF A FRIEND: d’Verse Poetics Prompt (Friends in Blogosphere)

For this week’s d’Verse Poetics Prompt, Punam from over @paeansunplugged encouraged us write a poem on friendship in whatever form it comes: in person; online or penpals etc.

But with a proviso: use a starting line from 1 of our fellow blogger’s poems and build a friendship themed poem around it. We have to ask permission of course with Britta Benson kindly letting me use the title line from one of her most recent offerings.

The line is: “When All Else Fails”. You can read it here at this link: https://oddsends707138946.wordpress.com/2023/03/01/when-all-else-fails-by-britta-benson/
Below lies my contribution: πŸ‘‡πŸ‘‡πŸ‘‡ hope that ye enjoy the read! πŸ€žπŸ™πŸ˜πŸ“–

PATIENT LOYALTY OF A FRIEND

I don’t have many friends
As I have a tend-
ancy to keep myself
To myself.
Perhaps it’s due
To a lack of trust
Or maybe it’s because
I’m not all that fussed
At the work that’s required
To keep the flames of friendship
Burning; on fire.
But I know that
“When all else fails,
When I’ve exhausted
My fiercely independent approach,
When I’ve nowhere left to turn
I can count on you
Loyal;
Consistent
Enduring
Friend.
To be there for me
When I haven’t always
Been there for you.
Despite my unfulfilled promises
Of meeting up,
Your texts…
Unreplied
To listen without judgement
Over a walk down the street
Or long overdue conversations
In my favourite coffee shop,
As I relay my dilemmas
And struggles
To keep my feet grounded
When I get a bit ahead of myself.
To make me laugh
When I get too serious
With silly Facebook memes
To make me cringe
With your outgoing nature.
Chatting to everyone you meet
My worries take a back seat
And I smile in silent gratitude
At the patient loyalty of a friend.

TEAK TOUGH: Moonwashed Weekly Prompt (Uncompromising) Ragtag Daily Prompts (Exoskeleton & Sunset)

For this week’s prompt amalgamation I’ve combined this week’s Moonwashed Weekly Prompt (Uncompromising) with today’s Ragtag Daily Prompt which was originally (Exoskeleton) but now (Sunset). Both prompts have been included in this poem. Hope ye enjoy the read! πŸ™πŸ€žπŸ˜πŸ“–

TEAK TOUGH

Steadfast in his ambition
Uncompromising in his beliefs
Stubborn & resilient
He was like an old oak tree
Firmly planted to the ground
Roots stretching deep beneath the earth
You could hit him
Shake him
Try to cut him down
His weather beaten
Teak tough exoskeleton
Had taken a lot of abuse
Over the years
Had witnessed many sunsets
But he was not for moving
He was built for endurance
Uncompromising endurance!

CHILDHOOD CONVERSATIONS BY THE QUAYSIDE: Sadje’s #WhatDoYouSee #WDYS Poetry Image Prompt #175

Image credit; Joshua Clay @ Unsplash

This week, for the visually challenged reader, Sadje has provided us with a black and white photograph above, showing the back of two young children sitting together. The older child has her arm around the shoulders of the younger one. The kids appear to be sitting by the water’s edge. Below lies my contribution: πŸ‘‡πŸ‘‡πŸ‘‡

CHILDHOOD CONVERSATIONS BY THE QUAYSIDE

Listen little bro,
Come park yourself here beside me
So I can put my arms around you
I’m your big sister, you see.
So, it’s my job!
Look at the water there
It’s pretty big and I don’t want you falling in!
I’ve a few things to tell ya about this being a kid lark
It’s not easy, ya know.
You’ve a lot of eating to do & sleeping too!
But remember!
You have got to keep Mammy & Daddy awake.
So keep filling up those nappies, ya hear?!
And cry the odd time too,
One of those loud; wailing piercing cries
That keeps waking them up
It’s vitally important!
The more sleep deprived they are, the better!
Being cute helps too, helps you get away with murder.
Oh, and one final thing
Don’t forget that I’m always right.
Even when I’m not! πŸ‘πŸ˜
