MAGICAL HIDEAWAY; TRICK OF REFLECTION: #Tanka Tuesday #PoetryChallenge #310

For this week’s Tanka Tuesday Weekly Poetry Challenge, Colleen has invited us to to compose a poetic response to the picture below taken by Terri Webster Schrant over at secondwindleisure.com for her weekly Sunday Stills Photo Challenge.

MAGICAL HIDEAWAY; TRICK OF REFLECTION

Water bubbles & froths
While steam rises
A strange concoction brewing underneath
Appearing to transform into a shade of green
A magical hideaway?!
Signs of new life emerging?!
Or just a trick of towering trees
Sloping down into the lake
Reflected.

RAMBUNCTIOUS RHYMES; DYSFUNCTIONAL DEMANDS: Tanka Tuesday Weekly Poetry Challenge #305

For this week’s Tanka Tuesday Weekly Poetry Challenge Colleen has encouraged us to compose a freestyle/free verse or syllabic poem using at least 3 words from the list of 100 random generated words below. I chose rambunctious, dysfunctional & disturbed and the syllabic form of symatrelle as it’s served me well in the past! Hope ye enjoy the read! 🙏🤞😁📖

RAMBUNCTIOUS RHYMES; DYSFUNCTIONAL DEMANDS

He is a little rambunctious

Some say, dysfunctional and disturbed
I pray, that he’s not too perturbed

Been without his father since the age of six
Has never settled because he doesn’t mix
Acts up so that they keep having to up sticks
And move. Certain problems that you can’t fix

His behaviour is now uncontrollable
His weary mother is inconsolable

He is a little rambunctious

SNOWCAPPED BEAUTY – Tanka Tuesday Weekly Poetry Challenge No 302

This week over at Tanka Tuesday Colleen has provided us with the image above as a source of poetic inspiration. Below lies my contribution: 👇👇😁😁

SNOWCAPPED BEAUTY

Snowcapped mountain peaks
On a brisk January morning
Struggling; stretching to climb
Above the row of high pine trees
Which tower over the blue house
(With 4 windows to let the light in)
And large aluminium shed too
With their slanted; snow covered roofs.
The little garden shed
Almost dwarfed in comparison
Mounds/balls of the wintry white powder
Bunched together atop a beautiful; thick carpet of sn
.

RED BRICK REVELATION; GREEN GARDENING MYSTERY

Image credit; Mick Haupt @ Unsplash

For this week’s #WhatDoYouSee #WDYS Poetry Image Prompt Sadje has provided us with an image of a doorway in a brick wall. Beyond the doorway, you can see a garden view, extending back to the mountains. Have also been encouraged to use some form of colour in a poem by the crew over at Tanka Tuesday. Below lies my contribution:

RED BRICK REVELATION; GREEN GARDENING MYSTERY

High red brick wall
And green doorway
Concealing something
Something mysterious
Doorway opens
Gardens revealed
Narrow walkway
Red dash stones
Underfoot
Neatly trimmed
Low lying; green hedges
Either side of me
Pathways
To the left and right
Steep; sloping
Densely populated
Forested area
(Just beyond
The squares
Of grass and garden)
Covered with green trees
What are they hiding?
I wonder
Surrounds seem
Too peaceful to be true.
Green and red everywhere you look
The colours of passion; harmony;
Strength and revitalisation
Maybe this horticultural
Improvisation
Might provide
Some fresh realisations
Surprising revelations?!

LIGHTENING ROD: Tanka Tuesday Poetry Challenge

I haven’t done this challenge before but I came across on my good friend’s David Bogomolny’s blog over at the Skeptic’s Kaddish so I thought I’d give it a whirl. It’s called The Symetrelle

(The Symetrelle is a form created by Julie Moeller Writing on Allpoetry com as Bluejewel. She describes it thus:

  • It begins and ends with a single subject line that is 7 syllables.
  • It has ‘a hat and boots’, mono-rhymed couplets that lead you into and out of the subject with a 9 syllable count.
  • At the heart of it is a mono-rhymed 4 line quatrain with an 11 syllable count.)
  • Below lies my contribution which gave us the word Lightening to use as a guide line. Not sure it’s exactly within the parameters of a symatelle but sure hope you’ll enjoy! 🤞🙏😁

    LIGHTENING ROD

She’s a lightening rod for trouble

    It courses through her veins
    She always gets the blame

    When you’re in her vicinity
    Bad things happen implicitly
    The air fills with electricity
    From her strange eccentricity

She’s a lightening rod for trouble

If you too would like to participate in the prompt then you can access it through the following link:
