A FUNGAL FANTASY: Sadje’s #WhatDoYouSee #WDYS Poetry Image Prompt #172

Photo credit; Greg Nunes @ Unsplash

For this week’s prompt, Sadje has provided us with the image above as a source of creative inspiration. It “shows a set of three blue artificial mushrooms planted in a grassy area. These are all of different sizes.” Below lies my contribution: 👇👇👇

A FUNGAL FANTASY

No, you’re not hallucinating
Nor are you experiencing a bad trip
Yes, there are 3 mushrooms
But not of the magic kind
Artificially planted
Out of the blue!
Shining bright
A fishy; fungal fantasy
Swimming in circles
Around an ocean
In a mushroom cap

DIS-ARMING SEASIDE ERASURE: Sadje’s #WhatDoYouSee #WDYS Poetry Image Prompt #171

An image of; Not All There – The Enigmatic
Sculptures of Bruno Catalano

In his week’s prompt, for the visually challenged reader, Sadje has given us the image above which shows a sculpture of a man holding a bag. The statue is on waterside, and part of the statue is intentionally missing. Below lies my contribution: 👇👇👇 Hope that ye enjoy the read 🙏🤞😁📖

DIS-ARMING SEASIDE ERASURE

Walking alongside the water’s edge
I suddenly an urge to dive into the water
As I was weary from my day’s work
The evening sky was still blue
And swimming trunks in my bag
Then out of the blue
Bits of me began to disappear
As if the water
Had jumped up from the sea
And painted itself
onto my body & clothes
Rubbed them out.
Swallowed them up
Till all that was left
Was my legs and bag
I hadn’t the heart to go on
Nor any weight to carry
My hope was erased
The whole experience
Was dis-arming
Science-fictionally
Alarming

WOODLAND TIME TRAVEL: Sadje’s #WhatDoYouSee #WDYS Poetry Image Prompt #170

Image credit; Sylvian Sarrailh @ Digiartque

This week Sadje provides us with a digital art image (above) that shows a man standing in front of a square portal that shows a scene from another place. Stairs lead up to this portal. Below lies my contribution to the prompt: 👇👇👇

WOODLAND TIME TRAVEL

When they took me out into the woods
With the promise of another world
Dripping off their honeyed lips
A portal to another world
I didn’t believe them to begin with,
Laughing at the sheer incredulity of it
All!
I’d been down the woods hundreds of times
On late night walks
And camping trips
I whispered to myself
“Get a grip”
And there’d been no portal.
Least none that any mere mortal
Could see
The woodlands had transformed
Taken on an animated form
Full of purple; greenish hues
With pink and violet too
Then, in front of me
Atop a series of stony steps
Lay something to behold
A giant cosmic portal
In the shape of a tablet
Bordered by twisting
Winding tree branches
Began to open, unfold
Revealing blue skies & green fields.
I stand in awe for a moment
To take it all in, to steel
Myself for whatever was to come
I should turn and run
But I was rooted to the spot
And couldn’t move.
Hypnotised by this
Strange; beautiful sight
Whirring; blinding
Fast-forwarding
Or rewinding
Then it began
To pull me towards it!

EYE’VE BEEN WATCHING YOU – Sadje’s #WhatDoYouSee #WDYS Poetry Image Prompt #169

For the visually challenged reader, Sadje has provided us this image above which shows a shot of a green field, in the center of which is a flowerbed shaped like an eye and the flowers planted to give an impression the eye is staring directly forward. Below lies my contribution: 👇👇👇

EYE’VE BEEN WATCHING YOU

Eye’ve been watching you
(But I’m no grass)
Without you even realising.
As you’ve hopped & skipped
Through the fields each day
While you’ve harvested the crops
And the cows have grazed
No “fields of gold” here
Just fields as old as time
Borne of supernatural wisdom
Full of horticultural vision
Designed by Mother Nature
To provide for our needs
Carefully & intricately crafted
Into the sheathes of grass
So as to keep an eye on us
If you will
(Yet remain hidden from sight)
To gleam a deeper understanding
Of man’s comings and goings
And their strange ways
As we live each day
Crossing to and fro
Over the chlorophyll terrain

CERAMIC OR BUST – Sadje’s #WhatDoYouSee #WDYS Poetry Image Prompt #168

Image credit: Cottonbro Studio @ pexels

https://lifeafter50forwomen.com/2023/01/09/what-do-you-see-168-january-9-2023/

CERAMIC OR BUST

Eyes slanted downwards
In deep; still reflection
For fear she’d BUST the bubble
Of history surrounding her.
Heads of philosophical greats
Sculpted in stoic; ceramic silence
Set atop a concrete perch
Searching for a little of their
Wisdom & insight
Gravitas & dignity
Perhaps to carve out
Her own unique place
In the annals of time
An intellectual giant
In her own right.
Then someday
Someone
Might carve out a sculpture
Of her
To gaze silently upon passers-by
And to be gazed at in return
In hushed; reverential
And inquisitive tones

GIVEN THE BOOT (Who’d Have Th-runk?) – Sadje’s #WhatDoYouSee #WDYS Poetry Image Prompt #167

Image credit; Yana Tes @ Unsplash

For this week’s #WhatDoYouSee challenge Sadje has provided us with this image above that shows an old pair of boots sitting on a cut tree trunk. Some green ferns are growing out of the boots. Below lies my contribution: 👇👇👇👍👍👍

GIVEN THE BOOT (Who’d Have Th-runk?)

Some “boots were made for walking
And that’s just what they’ll do”
But these boots ‘ere have grown stalks n’
Green ferns in them & taken root
Sitting atop a trunk
Who’d have thunk?
How very shrewd?!
