For this week’s #WDYS #WHATDOYOUSEE Poetry Image Prompt, Sadje has provided us with the image above which shows many lanterns floating into the night sky. Some are nearby are more visible than others which are far away. Below lies my contribution to the prompt: 👇😁

LIGHTING UP SPACE; LANTERNS OF HOPE

Travelling through outer space
On a beaten up old rocketship
Light years away from our destination.
Along the way, we begin to encounter,
What seems like, tiny yellow balls of light
Just floating around the great darkness, Drifting slowly upwards
Getting bigger as we approached them.
A bizarre sight!
Turns out they were lanterns
lit up years before
And let loose into the sky
In memory of loved that were lost
In previous lunar space missions.

FINDING YOUR PLACE: d’Verse Quadrille Prompt (Place) #201

For this week’s d’Verse Prompt, De Jackson aka WhimsyGizmo has invited us to think upon the word: “Place” and compose a Quadrille (44 word poem) using the word or a variation thereof.

FINDING YOUR PLACE
Each of us are searching for our place
In this world, somewhere we belong.
Placing great importance on being
A part of something or someone
Before we get displaced
Before we pass away & get replaced
By the next soul sent down to earth

LIFE FORCE OF (MOTHER) NATURE: Sadje’s #WhatDoYouSee #WDYS Poetry Image Prompt

Image credit; Marianna Smiley @ Unsplash “Thrive” by Danial Pooper a sculpture in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

For this week’s #WDYS #WHATDOYOUSEE Poetry Image Prompt, Sadje has provided us with the image above which shows a giant female figure who is opening her chest to show the greenery inside. There are cracks on the visage and torso of this sculpture.

LIFE FORCE OF (MOTHER) NATURE

I am Mother Nature
Once ensnared my Medusa
For daring to challenge her
She turned my body to stone
But soon after,
Her spell began to wane
The cracks started to appear
In her concrete prison
As nature itself,
My life force
The very essence of me
Was beginning to stir again
It was becoming too vibrant and strong
To stay within the stony confines
And was trying to push it’s way through
So I ripped open my chest
To allow the lush greenery to grow
To flourish and thrive once more.

TRAILBLAZER: d’Verse Quadrille Prompt #200 (Blazing)

For this week’s d’Verse Quadrille Prompt, Mish has set us a fiery choice: compose a Quadrille (44 word poem) using the word “Blazing” or a variation thereof. Below lies my contribution to the prompt: 👇😁

TRAILBLAZER

Blazing a path
Through the tarmac streets
With cushioned runners
And a thousand other feet
Later, that evening
Sitting in front of a blazing fire
He plots his final race
Knowing what was required
He had once blazed a trail
Now he must retire

For this week’s #WDYS #WHATDOYOUSEE Poetry Image Prompt, Sadje has provided us with the image above which shows a view of a walkway/ street, at a time when the shadows cast by the sun are out of proportion larger than the people walking the street. Below lies my contribution to the prompt: 👇😁

SHADOWS IN OUR SUNSHINE
The shadows people cast
As they walk down the street
Look somehow larger in the sun
And accompany us on our journey
Goes to show the influence we have
Is much greater than what we realise.

THE CRUEL IRONY OF GOOD FRIDAY: d’Verse Quadrille Prompt #199 (T.G.I.F)

For this week’s d’Verse Quadrille Prompt, De Jackson aka WhimsyGizmo has invited us compose a Quadrille (44 Word Poem) using the word: FRIDAY or a variation thereof. So, let’s get in touch with that Friday feeling & get writing. Below lies my contribution to the prompt: 👇😁

THE CRUEL IRONY OF GOOD FRIDAY

What’s so good?
About Good Friday,
I’ve always wondered.
An innocent man
The “Son of God” they called him.
Crucified on a cross
Unnecessarily
A strange dichotomy
Perhaps it was because
Whenever we get lost
His death would help us
Find our way back

BLOOD RED EYES; MASQUERADE SURPRISE: Sadje’s #WhatDoYouSee #WDYS Poetry Image Prompt #234

For this week’s #WDYS #WHATDOYOUSEE Poetry Image Prompt, Sadje has provided us with the image above which shows a man holding a white face mask which is hiding half of his face. Only his light brown eyes and forehead are visible. Below lies my contribution to the prompt: 👇😁

BLOOD RED EYES; MASQUERADE SURPRISE
The man behind the mask
Lowers it just enough
So we can see
The colour of blood in his eyes
And the thirst for more.
A masquerade ball
The perfect disguise
For a handsome,
Blood sucking vampire
To seek out fresh meat.
50 years since
A beguiling young lady
Sank her teeth into
His unsuspecting neck
And he hasn’t aged a day since.

MY RUNNING BOX: d’Verse Poetics Prompt (A Box Of Poems)

For this week’s d’Verse Poetics Prompt, Kim from writinginnorthnorfolk.com has invited us to write a poem about a our own “metaphorical box“. So let’s open it up and see what we have inside?!

MY RUNNING BOX

My box is very real
And lies underneath my bed
Inbetween my slippers & printer
A 2 year old running shoe box
With Asics inscribed on the outside
What lies in it? You may ask.
Race bib numbers and medals
Medals of participation & as a team
With my local athletic club
It also contains a running pouch,
For storing food; drink & keys
Whilst running longer distances,
An arm strap for holding my phone
That talks to me every mile
About how far I’ve ran
And what pace I’m going at.
Keeps me company
Finally. There’s a headlight
For lighting up
Those dark early morning runs
And show me where I’m going.
Not sure why I’m keeping it
To be honest.
Memories perhaps?!
Of a time when I flew
And felt free.
Evidence, maybe
Of delayed potential
Finally beginning to be fulfilled.
To pass on to my girls
When they are older
And I have near run my race.
To remind them to always run
And to enjoy doing so
To chase after their dreams
With energy; passion
And a stubborn refusal to give up.

HEARTS & NEEDLES; LEAVES & KEYS: Sadje’s #WhatDoYouSee #WDYS Poetry Image Prompt #233

Image credit; Michael Dziedzic @ Unsplash

For this week’s Poetry Image Prompt, Sadje has provided us with the image above which shows a brass key fallen among the leaves in a jungle. You can see a pine cone and needles around it too. Below lies my contribution to the prompt 👇😁

HEARTS & NEEDLES; LEAVES & KEYS

Couple of summers ago
On our expedition to the Amazon
I gave you a key
A key to my heart
This year, on my return
What do I find?
In the exact spot
I gave it to you
The very same key
Surrounded by leaves
(You leav-ing me)
And needles
Needless to say,
I’m heartbroken!
The brass neck of you.

THE OUTLINES OF FACES & THINGS: D’Verse Quadrille #198 (Fuzzy Frameworks)

For this week’s d’Verse Quadrille Prompt, Lisa aka msjadeli invites us to reflect upon the meaning of contours and compose a Quadrille (44 word poem) about it. Below lies my contribution to the prompt: 👇😁

THE OUTLINES OF FACES & THINGS

Canny contours can control
The outlines of your face
Shape the way we see things
In a certain kinda way
Curve around a mountainside
To reveal a path or place
Form an enchanting silhouette
With a pencil, it can trace
But can never replace
