SAVOUR THE FLAVOUR: d’Verse Poetics Prompt: Cheers!

Hey folks, this week for d’Verse’s Poetics Prompt, Punam has encouraged us to pop the cork on some lyrical bubbly; crack open a bottle of rhyme and enjoy the refreshing combination of drink & poetry, both alcoholic & non-alcoholic. Below lies my contribution: πŸ‘‡πŸ‘‡πŸ‘‡

SAVOUR THE FLAVOUR

I started off with some Guinness
A pint of the black stuff
With a creamy white head
But I found it too heavy
So I called it’s bluff
Our brief love affair was dead
Then I got to savour the flavour
Of a corona & lime
A Mexican beverage
With a taste so sublime
Knock back 3 or 4 of them
One bottle at a time.
As I found them condusive
To composing a rhyme
But as time went by
I began to feel
That the taste of the lime
Had lost it’s appeal
So, I turned to a bottle of Tyskie
One of Poland’s finest beers
Mixed and fermented
With barley, hops & yeast
Refreshing and crisp
Perfectly balanced
Fit for any dinner or feast
It had no rival for my affection
Nothing could compete
Until a friend of mine
Brought some over recently
Goes by the name of Rockshore
Light; malty and sweet
Inspired by the Atlantic Coast
My journey in alcohol now complete
As it’s made in the same brewery
As Guinness. Isn’t that neat?
Almost forgot to inform you
That I think you should know
I enjoy the odd glass of wine
And her name is Merlot
Though it leaves me a little groggy
And hinders my flow
The very next day
Not a place I like to go
That’s the end of the story
The end of the show

    1. Ha! Thanks very much Yvonne, glad you enjoyed it! πŸ˜›πŸ™πŸ˜ Yeh, sort of like a poetic 12 pubs of Christmas. πŸ˜›πŸ˜‚ Never been to a brewery myself.

  1. I really enjoyed this! Guiness is my favorite beer! I also enjoy a Corona with lime when I’m having tacos, and I’ll never turn down a glass of Merlot!!

    Cleverly penned! 🍷🍻

  2. Well, from that list, it appears you really know your beer!! I’m a chardonnay person….have never been able to tolerate even the smell of beer. Perhaps it’s because my father used to dring Old Milwaukee???? Ever heard of that one? πŸ™‚

    1. Ah, I know a little bit Lillian. Not as extensive as that poem would have you believe! πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ I’m the same with spirits, can’t stomach them. No, never heard of it I’m afraid Lillian. Maybe it’s to do with living in Ireland.

  3. Ah! A beer person! If you like Corona with lime, then you must try Bintang Radler lemon. It is the only beer I have ever enjoyed.
Thanks, Ken, for joining in with this fun run through beers. πŸ»πŸ˜„
